What it's for
The QR code is the door to your menu. There are two types:
- One QR code per table: the order reaches you with the table number, without the guest typing anything. It also turns on the «Call the waiter» and «Ask for the bill» buttons.
- The general QR code: for your shop window, the counter, receipts or social media. It opens the menu without a table.
Printing a QR code for each table
- Go to Menu › QR (the «QR & signs» page) and choose the Tables section.
- Press Edit and enter the No. of tables you have (from 0 to 200).
- If you have spots with names, add them under Named areas: «Terrace 1», «Bar»… (up to 40).
- Press Print all N signs. They come out two to a page, each with your logo, your name, «Table N», its QR code and «Scan and order from your table».
- Cut them out and put each one on its table. Card and a table stand work best.
Each table has its own colour, the same one you'll see in Orders and in the kitchen.
The general QR code and the menu sign
In Menu › QR › Menu you'll find the general QR code «(window, counter, receipt)», with:
- Share: sends the image or the link (on a computer, it copies it).
- Download: saves the QR code as an image, for your signs or your own design.
- Print.
- Printable sign: choose the background (White or Brand colour) and the size (A6, postcard size, or A5, half a sheet). If you take orders, the sign says «Scan, see the menu and order from your table».
NFC card: just tap the phone, no scanning
An NFC card or sticker on the table opens your menu when a phone is held near it. Any rewritable one will do (NTAG213 or higher).
- Install the free «NFC Tools» app on your phone.
- In Menu › QR › Menu › NFC card, press Copy menu link (or Copy review link).
- In NFC Tools: Write → Add a record → URL/URI → paste the link → Write.
- Hold the card against the back of the phone until it confirms. Test it with another phone.
The reviews sign
In Menu › QR › Reviews there's a sign with a QR code that takes guests straight to leaving a review on your Google Business Profile. We explain it in Google reviews.
Security: new QR codes
If you suspect someone is using photos of your QR codes to order from outside, in Menu › QR › Tables › Edit you have:
- Require new QR codes: only QR codes printed from today onwards will work; the old ones can no longer be used to order, call the waiter or pay. Reprint and replace the QR codes on your tables before turning it on.
- Regenerate codes: creates new QR codes and the previous ones stop working. You'll see «New codes ready. Print them and replace them on the tables.»
Tables and floor plan
The tables on your QR codes are the same ones you see in Tables. There you can draw your floor plan; we explain it in Tables, calls and the bill.
Tips
- Test each QR code with your phone before you open: it should open the menu with the right table number.
- Put the QR code in plain view, at eye level for whoever sits down. If the table has a tablecloth, a stand works better.
- Put the general QR code in your Instagram bio, on your Google Business Profile and on your receipts too.
Common problems
| This happens | Why | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The guest sees «That table doesn't exist. Scan your table's QR code.» | The QR code belongs to a table you no longer have. | Check the No. of tables and reprint that QR code. |
| The guest sees «To order from your table, scan the QR code on it.» | You've turned on «Require new QR codes» and their QR code is an old one, or they didn't come in through a QR code. | Put the new QR code on the table. |
| «That area already exists or is a table number.» | You've repeated a name or used numbers only. | Use a different name, such as «Terrace 1». |
| The waiter can't see the QR tab | That's normal: their role doesn't include it. | The manager or the owner looks after it. |
