Table and online payments

Let your guests pay from their phone.

Updated 26 October 2026

On this page

What it's for

With the Online payments module, your guests pay from their phone, without waiting for the waiter or the card terminal:

  • the table's bill, in full, split or just their share, with a tip if they like;
  • an order from the menu, before it goes to the kitchen;
  • a pickup order, or a delivery order if you deliver yourself.

The money goes to your own Stripe account (the company that processes the card payments) and from there to your bank.

What it costs

ItemPrice
Online payments module14.90 €/month or 149 €/year + VAT. Included in the «Everything» plan.
Per payment through the app2 % to The Food Please + Stripe's fee.
Your guestPays your menu price. No surcharges.

The module needs orders turned on, which are already included in your plan. There's no free trial.

Turning on payments: signing up with Stripe

  1. If you don't have the module yet, turn it on in Settings › Modules › Online payments.
  2. Go to Settings › Payments and press Enable online payments (5 min).
  3. Stripe asks for your tax details and your bank account. Have them to hand.
  4. When you're done you return to the panel. Once you can take payments, you'll see Payments active.

If you leave it half done, you'll see «Stripe still needs some details (bank and tax info).» and the button changes to Finish your details on Stripe. Press it and carry on where you left off.

In Settings › Modules › Online payments, the «Stripe account» row tells you where you are: «Connected: payments reach your bank.», «Some details still need completing on Stripe.» or «Not connected: connect it in five minutes.»

Choosing what your guests can pay

In Settings › Payments you have these switches. They save themselves as you tap them:

  • Pay the bill from the table (all, split or just mine, with tip).
  • Allow paying from the menu (tables too): the guest pays for the order when sending it.
  • Accept pickup orders: only works once Stripe is ready.
  • Pickup orders are paid in advance: on by default.

For pickup orders you also choose the Prep time (min) (from 5 to 240; set to 20 by default) and the hours: From and To.

What your guest sees

When paying the table's bill

  1. They tap Ask for the bill and choose Pay from your phone. (If they'd rather have the waiter, they choose Have the waiter come and say whether they'll pay by card or in cash.)
  2. They see what's been ordered, what's already paid and what's still due, with the notice «Pre-bill – not a valid invoice».
  3. Under «How much do you pay?» they choose: All, Split (between 2 and 20), Mine (ticking what they had) or Other amount.
  4. They choose a tip: No tip, 5 %, 10 % or Other.
  5. They press Pay X € and pay by card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.

At the end they see «Bill paid!» and «No need to wait for the waiter.», or, if they only paid their share, «You've paid your share (X)» and what's left on the table. For you, the table shows as paid in the app in Tables and in the kitchen.

When paying for an order or a pickup order

  • On the order sheet they choose Pay now or Pay at the venue and press Pay and order. Below, it reads: «You pay X to [your venue]. Secure payment with Stripe. No surcharges.»
  • For a pickup order, they choose As soon as possible or Choose a time (up to 7 days ahead) and press Pay and order. If it's paid on collection, the button says Place order.

The receipt and the invoice

After paying, the guest gets their receipt (or their simplified invoice, if you invoice with The Food Please), with the payment reference and the last 4 digits of the card. They can request an invoice with their details, email it to themselves or print it. The receipt can only be seen on the phone used to pay. More in Invoices and Veri*factu.

Seeing what you've taken

In Settings › Payments, once Stripe is ready:

  • Last 30 days: what's been paid through the app, the number of payments and the tips.
  • Recent payments: the last 20, for example «Table 5 · bill» or «Pickup · Lucía», with their tip. Refunded ones are marked «Refunded».
  • A link to sales by payment method in the Management report.

When you get the money

Each payment goes into your Stripe account. Stripe transfers it to your bank according to its payout schedule. You can see the dates and transactions in your own Stripe dashboard. The Food Please panel has no button to refund a payment: if you need to refund one, do it from Stripe.

Delivery orders with your own drivers

Inside Settings › Payments there's the Your own delivery card: home delivery with your own staff, no delivery platforms.

  1. Turn on Accept delivery orders.
  2. Set the Delivery fee (€), Free delivery from (€), Minimum order (€) and the Prep + delivery (min) time.
  3. If you want different hours from pickup orders, set Delivery from and Delivery until. Empty = the same hours as pickup orders.
  4. Add your Delivery zones by postcode with Add zone. Each zone can have its own delivery fee, its own «free from» and its own minimum.
  5. If you let guests pay on delivery, turn on Pay the rider (cash or card terminal). When it's off, orders can only be placed by paying online.
  6. Press Save.

Your guest chooses «Delivery» on the menu, enters their address and sees the delivery fee and the total before paying. If their postcode isn't covered, they see «We don't deliver to 28999. You can order for pick-up.». In Orders you'll see the address, Open map, the phone number and the On the way and Delivered buttons (or Collect and delivered if they pay the rider).

Stripe card reader on the POS

With a Stripe card reader on the venue's wifi, when you press Card on the POS or in Tables the amount appears on the reader by itself. Once the guest pays, the bill is paid with its invoice and receipt, like any other payment. The money goes to your Stripe account, the same one as online payments.

  1. Buy the card reader in your Stripe dashboard (Terminal › Order hardware).
  2. In Settings › Payments, Stripe card reader card, press Add card reader.
  3. On the reader: Settings › Generate pairing code. Type the 3 words in Reader code, give it a name (Bar, Terrace…) and, the first time, the venue's address.
  4. If you like, turn on Tips on the card reader: the guest picks 5%, 10%, 15% or no tip before paying.
  5. To charge: Charge › Card › Charge on the card reader. If the card is declined, press Try again; if the guest changes their mind, Cancel charge.

Tips

  • Make a test payment with your own card from a table before announcing it to your guests.
  • Tell your team that a table paid through the app mustn't be charged again: the panel marks it.
  • If a guest is paying from their phone and you go to charge the same table, the panel warns you: «An app payment is in progress (X). Charging now could charge twice.». Wait a few seconds.
