What you're going to do

  1. Create your account and your venue (5 minutes).
  2. Upload your menu.
  3. Add your logo and your colour.
  4. Print the QR codes for your tables.
  5. Place the first test order yourself.

You'll need: your menu (as a PDF, on your website or written down), your logo if you have one, and the account holder's tax details (Spanish tax ID, the NIF, and address).

1. Create your account

Go to thefoodplease.com/alta on your phone or computer. It's one question per screen, 9 in total. If you stop halfway, when you come back it asks «Shall we carry on with…?» and you pick up where you left off.

  1. Name and address: your venue's name and its web address, for example casamarta.thefoodplease.com (letters, numbers and hyphens; if it's taken, it suggests others).
  2. Type of venue: bar, café, restaurant…
  3. Where it is: address, postcode, town or city and, if you like, phone number.
  4. What you want to use: choose your plan. "Menu & floor" comes with 14 days free, no card needed; "Guests come back" and "Everything" are paid from day one, with a 30-day guarantee (see Plans).
  5. Your menu: paste it, use an example or choose «I'll upload it later».
  6. Account holder: self-employed or company.
  7. Legal details: NIF (Spanish tax ID) and registered address. The NIF is checked as you type it.
  8. Contract: you accept the data processing agreement (see Privacy).
  9. Your account: sign in with Apple, Google, your mobile number, or email and password (at least 8 characters). Press Create my venue.

When you finish you'll see «Ready!» with the link to your menu and its QR code, and you'll be taken straight into your panel.

2. The welcome guide

The first time you open your panel, a 6-screen guide appears: «Your menu in 3 steps», «Add your dishes», «Your photos», «Extra modules», «Choose your menu design» and «QR and tables». You can skip it with Skip and see it again whenever you like with See the guide: on a computer, right at the bottom of the sidebar; on a phone, at the end of the More sheet. Only the owner sees it. On the last screen there's «Want more detail? Full manual», which opens this manual.

3. Upload your menu

  1. Go to Menu › Dishes.
  2. Tap ··· › Import menu and choose PDF, My website or Text.
  3. Check the list and press Add N dishes.
  4. Mark the allergens for each dish (this is mandatory, and you confirm them yourself).
  5. Add photos: ··· › Upload photos and pick several at once.

All the details are in Dishes, categories and prices, Allergens and Photos.

4. Your logo and your colour

In Menu › Dishes › Venue settings, upload your logo, choose your colour and press Save name, logo and colour. Choose the design in Menu › Dishes › Design. More in Your menu's design.

5. Print the QR codes

In Menu › QR › Tables, enter how many tables you have and press Print all N signs. They come out two to a page. Cut them out and put each one on its table. More in QR codes and tables.

6. Your first test order

  1. Leave the panel open on Orders with the sound on.
  2. With your phone, scan a table's QR code (or open your menu as table 1 from Help and support › «How do I place a test order?»).
  3. Add something and send the order.
  4. Watch it arrive in Orders and on the kitchen screen. Mark it as ready and served, and watch it change on your phone.

If we set up your menu from your demo: publishing it

If you said «yes» to the demo we prepared for you, your panel already has your menu, but it isn't public yet: anyone who opens your address or scans a QR code sees «Menu coming soon».

  1. Log in with the link in the email and choose your password.
  2. Check dishes, prices and photos, mark the allergens and try anything you like (test orders, tables, stats). With your session open, your menu shows in «Preview».
  3. When you're happy with it, press «Publish my menu» at the top of the panel. From then on it's public and your QR codes work.
